Charles Conko, aka Chuck in Uniontown, is a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan and frequent caller on sports radio shows since the late 1980s. The 73-year-old with cerebral palsy has become a legend on Pittsburgh’s airwaves, but he hadn’t been to a Pirates game since 2013 — until Wednesday. The Post-Gazette's Jason Mackey worked with the Pirates and others to bring Conko back to PNC Park, where he met Paul Skenes and Bob Nutting, declared "Play ball!" and watched the Pirates beat the Tigers, 6-1. �

The Heinz History Center recently opened its new exhibit, “The Vietnam War: 1945-1975.” The exhibit includes a replica of the Vietnam Wall, combat uniforms and a UH-1H “Huey” helicopter with a 48-foot wing span. The exhibit, which runs through Sept. 22, looks at the United States’ involvement in Indochina from the beginning of the Cold War through the mid-1970s, with an eye toward the impact on Western Pennsylvania. The iconic McDonald's Big Mac has a Pittsburgh history. The story goes that Uniontown native Jim Delligatti, an early McDonald’s franchisee, wanted to boost sales at his dozen restaurants. In 1967, he introduced the Big Mac at his Uniontown restaurant for 45 cents — more than twice the price of a regular hamburger at the time — and sales increased by 12% within a few months. In 1968, McDonald’s rolled out the new sandwich nationwide. Delligatti’s son, Mike, demonstrated how a Big Mac was made. R
