Phyllis's entree into the world of radio began with her long-standing friendship with Maye Hampton James-Holler, who took Phyllis's 1976 song, "Baby", to radio. Maye was the VP of promotions at Desert Moon/Roadshow Records - the first label to sign Phyllis. Sadly, Maye passed away earlier this month. Thank you, Maye, for all you did for Phyllis. "I met Phyllis when I was 12 years old at a dude ranch in Colorado. We stayed in contact all those years growing up. When she was trying to get into the industry, she would come and stay at my house in Jersey City and hang out. She would rehearse with Soul Generation at the house a lot. Soul Generation recorded a song called One Thing On My Mind and I thought that would be a great song for Phyllis, so I introduced her to that song, and she recorded it. We remained good friends until her death. A
