Public Notice: Mountain Fire Update Good afternoon, residents, Conditions on the mountain fire have changed. Please take note of the following updates: - Fire Location: - The fire is currently burning along the R62 between Montagu and Barrydale. - Emergency Response: - Langeberg Standby crews have been activated. - Langeberg resources are being directed to Montagu. - Cape Winelands resources from Ceres and Worcester are also moving to Montagu. - A helicopter has been deployed to assist firefight

The Labor Mountain Fire has been burning in extremely steep and rugged terrain. A large portion of the fire burned through areas of cliffs and near vertical slopes where it is unsafe or inaccessible for ground crews. Firefighters still work on steep slopes constructing and securing hand line where it is safe enough to do so and where there is a high probability of success in corralling the fire. In this video clip, hotshot crews are securing the hand line in the northeastern section of the fire.
