Kim Yong-hyun (Hangul: 김용현; born 25 June 1959) [1] is a South Korean former lieutenant general and politician. He was the Minister of National Defense from 6 September 2024 until his resignation on 5 December 2024 for his role in the 2024 South Korean martial law.

The current acting Minister of National Defense is Kim Seon-ho since 5 December 2024, after the previous minister, Kim Yong-hyun, suggested to president Yoon Suk Yeol on 3 December that he impose martial law, which failed and resulted in the resignation of the minister. [1]
