The Department of Education has encouraged SAVE borrowers to transition into the Income-Based Repayment plan and resume payments sooner rather than later.

That all changed in October, when the federal government resumed reporting student loan delinquencies to credit bureaus.

If a college is cut off for accessing federal financial aid programs, students may not be able to afford to attend, and the school could see enrollment and revenue collapse.
