Dustin May and the Boston Red Sox are both hoping to make the most of an awkward situation. May arrived in Boston on Thursday in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who didn't want him in their starting rotation anymore.

It seemed like the Red Sox would be aggressive buyers at the trade deadline, especially after getting rid of Devers’ contract. While they did make some moves, they weren’t anything special on the surface. ESPN’s David Schoenfield named Boston as one of the trade deadline losers.

The Red Sox are maintaining a defiant stance that the players they have — the ones who have gotten them this far — are good enough.
