Countries with universal healthcare systems have stronger bargaining power, which has allowed them to effectively negotiate lower drug prices.

President Donald Trump signed a sweeping executive order Monday morning that promises to crack down on “unreasonable or discriminatory” practices by foreign countries that result in Americans paying far higher costs for prescription drugs.

The president directed his administration to tie drug prices that the U.S. pays to those paid by other countries.
