Interim Manhattan US Attorney Jay Clayton avoided a protracted fight over his temporary appointment when a group of judges approved him to remain in the post pending confirmation as a permanent prosecutor by the US Senate.

Federal judges in Manhattan on Monday extended Jay Clayton's term as the district's top federal prosecutor, as Senate Democrats block U.S. President Donald Trump's nominee for the U.S. Attorney role from being permanently confirmed.
