China said it had started an antitrust investigation of Google, which works with Chinese companies on smartphones and advertising outside the country.

China announced retaliatory tariffs on select American imports and an antitrust investigation into Google on Tuesday, just minutes after a sweeping levy on Chinese products imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump took effect.

Even though Google's services are largely unavailable in China, the company is being targeted as part of a response to US tariffs.
