New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated one year of congestion pricing in New York City Monday. The two were joined by MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. The announcement comes as Mamdani has promised to deliver free buses for New York City residents .

NEW YORK’S CONGESTION PRICING PROGRAM HAS PROVEN SUCCESSFUL, Governor Kathy Hochul said on its first birthday.

A year into New York City’s congestion pricing program, the initiative raised $550 million in net revenue in its first year, allowing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to proceed with $15 billion in transit improvement projects.

Almost a year after the MTA sued to block the USDOT from ending the congestion pricing toll to enter lower Manhattan, both sides will finally argue their cases before a judge on Jan.28.

Year two of congestion pricing in New York has officially begun, and with it comes more plans to improve the state's public transit system.

MTA fare hikes are in effect, upping the cost of NYC subway and bus rides, and trips on the Long Island and Metro-North railroads.
