A police officer is fighting for his life after he was stabbed in the neck in Camden, New Jersey, Sunday evening, according to investigators who say the attacked appeared to be unprovoked. Léelo en español aquí.

A 38-year-old man from Sicklerville was charged with attempted murder after officials said he stabbed a Camden County police officer on Sunday night.

A Camden police officer was stabbed in the neck Sunday evening in an unprovoked attack at Broadway and Chestnut streets while talking to another person, a police spokesperson said.

An on-duty Camden County police officer was stabbed in the neck on Sunday night in a "senseless act," Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez said.

"While out of his vehicle for 58 seconds, speaking to an individual outside of the store, a second unknown male approached him from behind and brutally stabbed him in the neck," said Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.

Camden County Police have identified the officer stabbed outside a grocery store as 23-year-old Joshua McKnight of Pine Hill. Officials say Officer McKnight is in critical condition.
