Toronto's Kevin Gausman was ejected after a 53-pitch inning -- the most by an MLB pitcher in an inning since 2022 -- in which he had five walks vs. the Yankees.

This was likely the result of frustration boiling over for the 34-year-old. In 2.2 innings against the Yankees, Gausman allowed six runs to score while walking five batters. This outing increased his season ERA from a dominant 3.16 to a mediocre 4.50 on the season.

It came to the fore in their 11-2 win over the Blue Jays in Game 1 of Sunday afternoon’s doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. The 5-through-9 batters in the lineup — Jazz Chisholm Jr., Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells, Jasson Dominguez and Oswaldo Cabrera — went a combined 8-for-18 with nine RBIs and six runs scored.

Yankees ace Max Fried settled into a groove on the mound, pitching six innings of one-run ball to earn the win. He’s now 5-0 this season with a 1.43 ERA, the sixth-lowest ERA of any qualified pitcher in MLB as of Sunday afternoon.
