Meta has begun sending layoff emails to roughly 10% of its workforce. The cuts are expected to eliminate around 8,000 roles.
According to an internal email obtained by Business Insider, the company told affected employees on Wednesday that the layoffs were part of a 'continued effort to run the company more efficiently' while also helping offset “other investments” being made by the business.

The Facebook owner is planning to lay off 10% of its employees on Wednesday, with additional deep cuts slated to come later this year.
The job cuts come as the company pushes for massive AI spending and plans to transition thousands of jobs toward AI initiatives.
The social media giant will also shift 7,000 staffers into new AI-focused roles and eliminate 6,000 open positions.
