Elizabeth G. Oyer, the former U.S. pardon attorney, reportedly says she was fired after she opposed restoring Mel Gibson's gun rights.

Mr. Gibson lost his right to own guns after his conviction in 2011. Federal law prohibits all those with felony convictions, and those with certain domestic violence misdemeanors, from possessing guns.

A pardon attorney for the Justice Department was fired last week, and she suspects it had something to do with refusing to restore Mel Gibson's gun rights given his domestic violence conviction. 'This isn’t political — this is a safety issue,
