The academy would be aimed at helping small and midsize businesses implement artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing techniques.

Apple’s plans build on the company’s existing presence in Detroit. In 2021, the tech giant launched its first U.S.-based Apple Developer Academy in the city, helping more than 1,000 students gain skills for careers in the iOS app economy.

"I think it’s another great sign that we’re continuing our transition into the tech space," said Ned Stabler of Tech Town Detroit.

Apple announced its opening of a manufacturing academy in Detroit. The plans were released as Apple announced Monday that it would spend more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years on facilities across the nation. Apple, which launched an academy for app developers in the city in 2021, made the announcement as part of a plan to double its manufacturing fund in the U.S. to $10 billion, hire 20,000 new workers and produce AI servers in the U.S.

The Apple Store has officially listed a new location to open in downtown Detroit. The store's website did not provide the official address, but said the store will be "coming soon" and it is already hiring.
