Wiera Gran (born Dwojra Grynberg) began her career in the 1930s at a young age - by the end of the decade, she was famous throughout Poland.

"Wiera Gran described a particular scene she remembered from the ghetto," Tuszynska told Warsaw's Talk FM radio. "She said it was the morning of the last day of July or the first day of August 1942.

His family took issue with certain quotes by Polish-Jewish singer Wiera Gran in a 2010 biography of her life written by Agata Tuszynska.

Wiera Gran was a legendary singer of pre-war Warsaw who performed in the ghetto during WWII, and her post-war life was marked by controversy.

The book, Accused: Wiera Gran, by the journalist Agata Tuszynska, has been described by Polish media as an attempt to rehabilitate the singer.
