Of note: The top four players in the 1997 Open were Els, Monty, Lehman and Jeff Maggert. I don't think Maggert has ever missed a fairway. Els and Lehman drove it incredible well in 1997.

The U.S. Open is about a lot of things, mostly involving pain, and there is no mistaking it for the dozens of other events that fill up golf’s calendar.

It has hosted the US Open in 1964, 1997 and 2011, along with the 1976 PGA Championship. The PGA Tour has held 10 tournaments at Congressional — the Kemper Open, Booz Allen Classic and AT&T National.
