Romania and Bulgaria celebrated on January 1 when the two EU members gained full entry into the bloc’s free-travel Schengen Zone. Romania became the 43rd country to enter the Visa Waiver Program.

The United States announced on Friday it was admitting Romania into its visa waiver program, allowing visa-free travel by Romanian citizens for up to 90 days starting around March 31.

Romania and Bulgaria will become full members of Europe's Schengen free-travel area from next month, swelling the number of nations to 29, the EU said on Thursday.
