This week’s College Football Playoff committee Top 25 is set. Ohio State once again is No. 1, followed by Indiana, Georgia and Texas Tech. If the brackets were set by tonight’s rankings, these would be the first-round pairings.

The College Football Playoff rankings release ahead of the final weekend of the regular season had some important winners and losers.

If the rankings were based entirely on strength of resume, both the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Texas Longhorns would be playoff teams right now. Yes, a Longhorns team with three losses and a Commodores team that lost to that three-loss Texas team, would be in the top 12. The reason for that is quite simple - they're in the SEC.

The release of the latest rankings offered plenty to talk about before the final rankings and the actual pairings for the 12-team playoff come out this weekend.
