Spaun, who up until Sunday had a grand total of one (1) PGA Tour victory to his credit, won the U.S. Open on talent, yes. But he won it on tenacity, too, and bend-but-don’t-break mental toughness. He won it because he hung around long enough to make exactly the right move at exactly the right moment.

One golfer who will be unable to climb the leaderboard on Sunday is Corey Conners. According to TSN's Bob Weeks, Conners is withdrawing after sustaining a wrist injury during the tournament. The PGA Tour confirmed the news minutes later during the final round of the U.S. Open.

The U.S. Open has a prize purse of $21.5 million this year and has been taking place at the Oakmont Country Club in beautiful Pennsylvania. Currently atop the leaderboard is American golfer Sam Burns at four under par. Burns shot one under par in the third round on Saturday to maintain a one-stroke lead at the top of the leaderboard.

J.J. Spaun was 5-over for his final round on Sunday, but after a weather delay, Spaun went 3-under in his last seven holes, including a 64-foot birdie, to win the 2025 US Open.
