West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey delivered updates on the state and local response to severe flash flooding in Ohio County. This morning, Governor Morrisey declared a state of emergency in Ohio County and has mobilized state resources to assist.

As of Sunday evening, state and local officials reported five persons confirmed dead as a result of powerful rains and flooding on Saturday with at least three others believed missing. Flood waters came quickly Saturday night,

“Flash flooding occurred in the City of Wheeling and in Ohio County last night,” the Wheeling-OhioCounty EMA said in a Facebook post. “There is extensive damage to roads and bridges. Many roads are closed. People have lost their homes from this flooding.”

In the aftermath of severe flash flooding that struck Ohio County on Saturday night, residents and volunteers have come together to aid in the cleanup efforts.
