A significant snow event will move into the Middle Tennessee region on Friday. Here's how much snow the greater Nashville area can expect.

Some areas of Middle Tennessee, especially over the Cumberland Plateau, will fall below freezing on Monday and will remain there until Friday.

At least 46 million people were under a winter storm warning as of Thursday as the storm spreads along the Gulf Coast Friday, according to the weather service. The storm should weaken by Saturday, bringing lighter snow between 1 and 3 inches to parts of the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic and the Ohio Valley before exiting off the Carolinas.

Mayor Freddie O'Connell and NDOT expressed confidence this week that the city will be ready for the coming winter storm.

Williamson County and other areas south of I-40 face a wind advisory on Sunday afternoon, with very cold temperatures forecast through the week.
