US President Donald Trump has suggested that a second meeting between him and Taoiseach Micheál Martin take place in Doonbeg. The pair met in the Oval Office of the White House yesterday as part of the Shamrock celebrations for St Patrick’s Day.

The presentation of shamrock to the White House has been a symbol of the friendship between Ireland and the United States since 1953.

The traditional event, tied to St. Patrick’s Day, is seen as important to reinforce the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
