Leaders of advocacy groups said HPD's cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement has led to family separations and increased deportations.

Dozens of Houston residents signed up to speak before the city council Tuesday against what they described as HPD’s collaboration with ICE. According to ICE, the agency arrested about 1,300 people in the Houston area in June.

Illegal immigrants Abner Ruiz, 37; Erick Menjivar, 30; and Carlos Gomez, 33, were arrested in separate incidents within days of each other after attempting to prey on young girls, officials said.

Maldonado-Zavala was charged with kidnapping and a sexual assault charge is pending, Pasadena police said. ICE on Sunday requested a hold for Maldonado-Zavala, who had no prior arrests, according to Harris County court documents. His immigration status was unclear.
